Dominican Republic- VBS

VBS

Each afternoon we traveled by bus to our VBS location. We spent 3 days (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) at the first site.
Our VBS was held under the shade of a tree in a graveled lot.

We began our time together singing songs with our worship leader and translator... Saul

Then we shared a bible story... acting out the parts as Saul translated for the children.
We shared the story of the Prodigal Song and Jesus washing the Disciples feet.

The children would then complete a craft that they could take home with them.
We had 70 kids the first day, 80 kids the second and over 100 children on Wednesday (many more children then the 50 we had expected).
As a special treat on Wednesday we had a bounce house, popcorn and cotton candy for the children.

Thursday and Friday we lead VBS at a different church.
We averaged around 40 children.

We again began our time together singing songs with Saul.
Most of the songs we were unfamiliar with the but joined in with the motions, when in doubt just smiling and dancing with the children.

Then Saul played...Jesus your my Super hero (while the girls never complained about the language barrier and the inability to speak Spanish, the joy on Lillian's face when she recognized the praise song was priceless. She was so excited to share a song she loves with her new friends)

The team and the kids loved singing together.
Their enthusiasm was contagious.

We then shared a Bible Story (The Prodigal Son)
Before making a craft

Words can not describe the joy of sitting on the floor amongst the children, coloring and creating together.
Both girls (Madison above and Lillian below) were eager to pitch in and help.

The kids were so proud of their crafts. Carefully putting them together and saving them to take home.

We would then end our time together by sharing snack (Kool Aide and cookies) before sending them home.
These special children brightened our days and changed our lives.

We continue to pray for them each day- for their church, their families and for their community.

We were blessed to have Saul with us all week to lead songs, translate our stories and to SHINE his light for the children to see God at work.
